2025 State Tech Cup

Updated: Jun 4

What an incredible day it was at State Tech College in Linn, MO, for the much-anticipated 2025 State Tech Cup! Our chapter member, Angie, had the distinct honor of receiving a special invitation to join the AGCMO Women of Steel Chapter's four-member team, and what an experience it turned out to be!

This fantastic event can best be described as a thrilling mash-up of "The Amazing Race" and "Minute to Win It." Twenty-seven teams, comprised of industry partners, zoomed around campus in golf carts, tackling a wide array of technical stations. It wasn't just about bragging rights; it was about the coveted State Tech Cup and, more importantly, gaining firsthand experience of the incredible breadth of academic programs offered at State Technical College.

The challenges were not for the faint of heart – or the easily squeamish! Here are just a few of the super fun (and sometimes hilarious) challenges:

  • Hospital Bedding Blitz: Changing hospital bedding while a patient was still in the bed – talk about precision under pressure!

  • Mini-Track Hoe Mastery: Operating a mini-track hoe to carefully move tires from one traffic cone to another, all without knocking over a single cone. It required a surprisingly delicate touch!

  • Sheep Separation Station: Attempting to separate three female sheep from three male sheep into different pens. It's much harder than it sounds when you're trying to outsmart a flock!

  • Electrical Outlet Expertise: Successfully wiring two electrical outlets, proving that practical skills are just as vital as theoretical knowledge.

  • Oral Health Ouch!: Matching the correct oral disease to a picture of the oral problem. (Eew, indeed!)

  • Lemonade Luminary: Blind tasting and identifying the different flavors infused in lemonade.

  • Blindfolded UTV Adventure: Maneuvering a UTV through an obstacle course while completely blindfolded, relying solely on my passengers' directions. This was the ultimate team-building exercise – trust and communication were key!

The competition truly showcased the diverse and hands-on education available at State Tech. It was inspiring to see so many industry professionals engaging with the practical skills taught at the college.

And the moment we've all been waiting for... the 2025 State Tech Cup winner is Sellenriek Construction! A massive congratulations to them on their well-deserved victory!

The State Tech Cup was more than just a competition; it was a fantastic opportunity to connect with industry peers, put our skills to the test, and gain a deeper appreciation for the vital role State Technical College plays in preparing the next generation of skilled professionals. We are already looking forward to next year!
