Sparks Flew and Connections Forged at NAWIC Central Missouri's 3rd Annual Learn to Weld Event!
The Central Missouri chapter of NAWIC recently hosted its highly anticipated third annual "Learn to Weld" event, and it was another resounding success! Members gathered for an evening of hands-on learning, camaraderie, and, yes, plenty of sparks!
The event kicked off with a warm welcome from our chapter leaders, followed by an insightful presentation from the gracious host, DeIla Ray. DeIla shared valuable information about the Welding Technology Program at the Davis H Hart Career Center, shedding light on the opportunities available for those interested in pursuing a career in this vital trade. It was inspiring to learn about the program and the skills being cultivated right here in our community.
Next up, safety was the top priority as Lori Richardson provided thorough and essential instructions on welding safety. Her expertise ensured everyone felt comfortable and well-informed before heading into the welding area. A huge thank you to Lori for emphasizing the importance of safe practices!
Of course, no NAWIC event is complete without fantastic food! Members fueled up for their welding adventures with delicious Pig Up & Go BBQ. The mouthwatering aroma filled the air, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone to connect.
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly getting behind the welding machines. Under the expert guidance of DeIla and her husband, Jack, members eagerly tested their skills in MIG welding. This year's creative project was crafting a metal "341" sign in honor of our very own Central Missouri chapter! It was amazing to see everyone's focus and determination as they brought their unique signs to life. These custom creations will serve as a fantastic memento of the event and our chapter pride.
For those looking to expand their welding horizons, DeIla and Jack also provided opportunities to try their hand at TIG and Stick welding, as well as the exciting process of grinding – letting the sparks fly! It was a fantastic chance for members to experience different welding techniques and discover new skills.
The "Learn to Weld" event is always a highlight of our chapter's calendar, and this year was no exception. It provided a unique and empowering experience for our members to step outside their comfort zones, learn a new skill in a supportive environment, and connect with one another on a different level.
A huge thank you to DeIla Ray and Jack for their incredible hospitality, expertise, and patience in guiding our members. We also extend our sincere gratitude to Lori Richardson for the crucial safety instructions and to Pig Up & Go BBQ for the delicious meal.
This event truly embodies the spirit of NAWIC – empowering women in construction through education, mentorship, and hands-on experiences. We can't wait to see what exciting learning opportunities next year's "Learn to Weld" event will bring! Stay tuned for more updates from the Central Missouri chapter of NAWIC!
